Adobe Stock Photos Details – What is Adobe Stock?

Adobe Stock was launched in mid 2015, and following Adobe’s acquisition of reputable stock photo agency Fotolia at the end of the previous year. While it was launched as part of a major update in Creative Cloud platform, Adobe Stock is not an app nor an addition to an existing app, but a stand-alone, premium stock photography service that is fully integrated into Creative Cloud platform.

Fotolia‘s already large collection of images conformed Adobe Stock’s initial offer, but later on they added much more content, even opening up to direct contributions by artists via Lightroom CC in further updates of the service. Now in early 2018, Adobe Stock has nearly 100 million images ready to purchase and use, granting variety in every topic and style imaginable, and high resolution quality.

Fotolia continues selling photos on their own website -now branded Fotolia by Adobe-, and Adobe Stock has its own dedicated site.

You don’t need to be a Creative Cloud member to buy and use photos from this service, but clearly you get more from it if you are.

Using Adobe Stock – All you Need to Know

Join us as we give you a detailed tour through Adobe Stock and its awesome stock photo service:

The Perfect Stock Service for Creative Cloud Users

Built directly into the Creative Cloud platform software, this stock photo offer enables customers of the design software cloud tool to search for images without leaving the design app of their choice. Adobe Stock works tightly with Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC, etc.

But the mind-blowing feature is that it allows to work with the watermarked images for free, editing as much as you want. This lets you do revisions and test edits without spending any money. Once a decision is made and you know which photo you want, you can license it with one simple click of the mouse, and all edits are automatically applied to the high res, un-watermarked photo. See a deeper explanation in this video below:

This is big part of what makes this premium service so valuable: it speeds and improves any designer’s creative process. It is still a one-of-a-kind feature in the market; since its launching other microstock agencies have added image editing services, but nothing that comes close to Adobe’s powerful apps. And as Adobe Stock comes at fairly affordable rates, it makes for a very convenient option if you use Creative Cloud.

Of course you can still buy from Adobe Stock directly from their website, and a Creative Cloud subscription is not required to purchase photos.

What Kind of Content does Adobe Stock Offer?

The content available in Adobe Stock’s main library includes royalty-free stock photos, illustrations and vector graphics, all in high quality and suitable for professional use. (All photos are available in format JPEG, rather than JPG).

While initially the offer was of stills only, later on they added a large collection of stock footage, which is accessible from video editing apps like Premiere Pro CC or After Effects CC, and includes video preview feature just like with images.

In further upgrades they also included a graphic template offer, 3D models, and a collection of Premium images with higher value.

Whatever content type you’re after, Adobe Stock likely has it.

How Much are the Adobe Stock Images – Adobe Stock Pricing Explained

Adobe Stock is a very affordable service, it’s part of what makes it such a great deal for designers. As all content is Royalty Free, they’ve the possibility to sell you lots of images for a very low price per unit.

They’ve an structure of subscription plans, that are billed monthly. You can hire them month to month, or per year to save more money. The larger and longer the plan, the lower the price per image.

The minimum purchase is of 3 images a month for just $29,99 – just $9,99 per photo. You can purchase this plan for just one month, or renew it as many times as you wish. More download options are:

Plan Price Month-to-Month Price per Image Price per Month with Annual Plan Price per Image
10 images a month Not available Not available $29,99 $3
40 images a month $99,99 $2,50 $79,99 $2
350 images a month $199,99 $0,57 $169,99 $0,49
750 images a month $249,99 $0,33 $199,99 $0,27

For more info, check Adobe Stock’s full pricing details here.

Content on Demand – Adobe Stock Premium and Extra Media Types

Adobe Stock subscriptions include images from the main library only. There’s additional media types available as premium level content, but you must buy them on demand, paying as you go (and you cannot use subscription downloads to get them).

These special assets include premium photos, stock videos, graphic templates and 3D models. Their price ranges from 2 to 50 credits each depending on media type. These are higher value productions and their price per unit is higher than that of standard images.

Credit packs start at 5 credits for $49,95 -which buys you one premium image- and escalates up to 150 credits for $1,200. This saves you %12,5 from regular credit price. All credits are valid for one year and you can use them whenever during that time.

As for payment methods, they accept most credit cards and Paypal. If you have a Creative Cloud account you will be billed through the method you have selected there.

Adobe Stock License: Cheap and Cool Royalty-Free Images

All imagery in Adobe Stock is Royalty Free. This means you only have to pay for the license once, and you get permanent usage rights for the content.

This type of license has very few restrictions, making it really flexible and convenient for commercial projects. The company has its own custom terms, but it’s pretty much standard for the Royalty Free model. You can learn all about Royalty Free license here.

This agency also offers Extended License, at $79,99 per image, which adds some bonus rights necessary for certain uses such as products for resale or large volume of copies. Extended License is available on demand only.

Check out Adobe Stock licensing terms here.

The Extras in Adobe Stock: Intelligent Search

This service spares no effort in bringing added value for customers. And one feature they put a lot of work in is search. They know how frustrating it is to navigate such huge collections of images looking for that specific, perfect photo for a project, and they want to make it as easy as possible.

Just as some other big players in the industry, Adobe Stock added artificial intelligence to their search engine last year. Complete with a reverse image search tool, this new and improved search bar delivers more accurate results in less time, including great image suggestions.

The tool also includes additional parameters like “Undiscovered” that shows you assets no other designer has used yet, and advanced filters like colour and depth of field.

How do You Download Images from Adobe Stock?

It couldn’t be easier! Here’s a little step-by-step guide to help you out:

-If you’re a Creative Cloud user

  • Log in to your Creative Cloud account
  • Open your favourite design app
  • Go to “Library” feature and run a search in the Adobe Stock search bar

  • Done! The comp file will be automatically updated with the high res, non-watermarked image into your design
  • All your remaining downloads will be ready to use whenever you want

-If you’re not a Creative Cloud customer:

  • Go to Adobe Stock’s website
  • Use the search bar to find images – you can use keywords or another image to find similar ones!

  • Done! The image will be downloaded to your local storage

Where to Get Images to Print on T-Shirts? Buy Images for Commercial Use

Stock photos are a great resource to save time and money in creating visuals for marketing, advertising, branding or social media presence, etc. But what if you want images you can print on t-shirts (or any other item) for series production and sell them to make some bucks? Well, you can. All you’ve to do is purchase images for commercial use, under an Extended License agreement.

Don’t be put off by how complicated it sounds: it’s dead simple. An Extended license is the same Royalty Free license you use for every other projects, only adding the necessary rights to use the images in products for resale, and unlimited copies.

So, when do you need an Extended License? Where to buy stock photos for commercial use? How much will they cost you? Read on as we answer all these questions one by one!

Quick advice: you can get images for commercial use at the lowest price in the market with the new Extended Licenses at SPS Shop!

Quick Guide to Stock Photos for Commercial Use

First of all, let’s make clear here we are talking about images under Royalty Free license, which gives you a number of preset rights for a one time fee, letting you use the photos forever, in as many designs as you want.

Now, stock photos under this license can be used for commercial purposes (the agency makes sure to check all rights are cleared for such use). With the Standard license (the default one at pretty much every agency) you can use the photos in any commercial project that doesn’t involve selling the image repeatedly and directly. Marketing campaigns, adverts, banners, social media posts, store decoration, and more are typical commercial uses.

The main restrictions in this license are the number of copies you can distribute (commonly set at 500,000 units), and the prohibition to use photos in products or designs you will then resell for a profit.

What is an Extended License?

You can click here for detailed info on Extended Licenses and practical examples on its uses. But simply put, it’s an upgraded version of Royalty Free license. As its name gives away, it extends the usage rights you get, removing certain limitations of the Standard license and adding some very useful rights. It is also a one-time fee model: you pay once, and gain the usage rights forever.

Extended License mainly adds to very important rights:

  • Unlimited print run
  • Use in products for resale

When you buy images under Extended License, they are photos for commercial use that you can legally include into products you will repeatedly sell to multiple clients. And you don’t have to worry about production run, as you can use the image in unlimited reproductions.

When Do I Need an Extended License?

As you likely guessed, you’re going to need an Extended License when:

  • You intend to distribute more than the Standard limit of copies (even if it’s not for reselling purposes)
  • You want to use the photo in a design that will be reproduced and sold for a profit (be it in physical or digital products)

If you’re looking for images to print on t-shirts, hats, mugs, posters, etc., then you definitely need to purchase images for commercial use with Extended License.

What is the Best Source for Buying Images for Commercial Use?

As we said, many stock photo agencies include Extended Licenses in their offer. In pretty much all cases these license can be acquired on demand, but not with subscriptions.

Here we bring you a list of the best places to purchase stock photos for commercial use with Extended License. Have a quick look at their amazing prices!
